AMI Training and University Degree Programs

Adult learners choose Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) training programs delivered through MTCNE (Montessori Training Center Northeast) for several reasons:

AMI is a globally recognized organization, established by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1929 to safeguard the integrity of her educational method and ensure its accurate and lasting implementation. As an AMI-affiliated training center, MTCNE provides courses that meet international standards and are widely respected within the Montessori community. In addition, MTCNE’s Early Childhood and Elementary I–II teacher education programs hold accredited status from the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE)*.

AMI training programs offered through MTCNE provide a comprehensive understanding of Montessori philosophy, theory, and practice. This includes in-depth knowledge of child development, the prepared environment, observation techniques, and curriculum implementation.

Since before 2007, MTCNE has partnered with the University of Hartford, a collaboration that brings additional academic rigor and research opportunities to our students. This partnership strengthens our learning community, connecting adult learners with both the depth of Montessori training and the breadth of university-level scholarship. Through this collaboration, students may also complete Montessori teacher training as part of a degree in Montessori Studies.

MTCNE offers training programs that are designed to accommodate the needs of adult learners. We offer part-time and blended delivery options, allowing individuals to pursue training while balancing other personal or professional commitments. At the core of all AMI training delivered through MTCNE is the value placed on the hands on learning in a prepared environment under the guidance of a expert trainer within a community of practice; this is a required component of the training that transforms adult learners’ pre-service practice.

MTCNE holds accredited status for its Early Childhood and Elementary I-II Montessori teacher education certification course levels from the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE). MTCNE does not hold accredited status for its Infant and Toddler Montessori teacher education certification course level with MACTE.
