Short Description

Montessori did not invent knowledge. She took the knowledge of her time and presented them in a way that this knowledge would appeal and be best learned by children ages 6-12. This presentation shares insights of where and how certain materials used in Cosmic Education came to be as they are used today. It will provide a closer look at some of the original reference books the Montessori’s used as a basis for the Geography charts as well as descriptions of the charts by Mario Montessori Sr. This knowledge may be a key that allows us to move the Montessori method further while keeping the spirit that Dr. Montessori infused in her plan of education for 2nd plane children. 

Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Gain a better appreciation of the legacy that Dr. Montessori and Mario Montessori built when coming up with Cosmic Education.
  • Learn about the history of the development of the Geography charts.
  • Learn about charts that were once part of the Geography album and are no longer used (due to updates in human knowledge)
  • Understand how Montessori principles can be applied to current reference books when we design and make new lessons in our classrooms.

About Our Speaker

Xavier Angelo Paez Barrameda is an AMI Auxiliary Trainer at the 6–12 level with nearly 15 years of experience in Montessori education. He has assisted and lectured in the 60th and 62nd AMI 6–12 diploma courses at the Fondazione Centro Internazionale Studi Montessori in Bergamo. Xavier holds AMI diplomas at both the 3–6 and 6–12 levels, completed the NAMTA Adolescent Orientation, and participates regularly in AMI’s Training of Trainers Seminars.

His career spans roles as assistant, lead guide, Head of School, and now Director of Pedagogy at The Abba’s Orchard School. He examines for AMI diploma courses, consults internationally, presents widely, and contributes to the AMI journal.

Part II: In the Fullness of Time — From Adolescence to Adulthood

Beginning Friday afternoon, the lens widens. The conference turns explicitly toward the continuum from Second Plane foundations to Third and Fourth Plane culmination.
