For five years, a remarkable leadership and education journey has been quietly unfolding across rural communities.

In 2021, NITTE launched a national recruitment campaign seeking unconventional leaders: individuals not necessarily from traditional education backgrounds, but with the courage, commitment, and heart to serve the youngest children in underserved communities.

Twenty-four leaders answered that call.

They enrolled in rigorous AMI Montessori Primary training while simultaneously establishing rural community Children’s Houses in partnership with local communities and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. What followed was far more than teacher training.

Overcoming Obstacles, Building Foundations

These leaders navigated COVID disruptions, regional conflict, economic uncertainty, and the realities of building high-fidelity learning environments in rural contexts. Alongside their classroom work, they received ongoing in-class coaching, mentorship, and experiential leadership development focused on self-awareness, community leadership, and service.

Over the past three years, they have directly supported the holistic development of more than 120 children during the most critical years of life (ages 3 to 6)—laying foundations for independence, confidence, concentration, literacy, social cohesion, and lifelong learning.

But the impact has extended far beyond the classroom. Trainees from this initiative have already begun supporting Montessori education efforts in rural Senegal and Nigeria, demonstrating the wider potential of expanding access to child-centered, community-rooted education across Africa.

The Final Stretch: 14 Weeks to Go

Today, these 24 trainees stand at the final stage of their five-year journey. They have only 14 weeks of training remaining to complete their AMI qualification and leadership formation.

To ensure every trainee can cross the finish line, we urgently need to raise $7,500.

Where Your Contribution Goes

This final funding milestone will directly support:

  • Completion of the final 14 weeks of AMI training.
  • Mentorship and ongoing coaching support.
  • Continued access to essential learning materials and final assessments.
  • Sustaining the leadership pipeline for rural Montessori education.

A Global Investment in the Future

This is not simply an investment in teacher training. It is a direct investment in:

  • Rural children receiving high-quality early childhood education.
  • Community-rooted leadership.
  • Women and youth leadership development.
  • Peacebuilding and resilience through education.
  • Expanding Montessori access across Africa.

The ripple effects are already visible. With your support, these 24 leaders can complete the journey they began five years ago and continue transforming the lives of children and communities for years to come.
