This past November MTCNE hosted the first AMI Refresher Course to be offered in the northeastern United States. The Refresher Course, titled The Art of Writing: Supporting Self-Expression, was designed to provide participants with a deep dive into the language and writing pedagogy of Montessori education.

It was wonderful to welcome the participants to the Training Center for an in-person gathering after so many months of online conferencing. Participants joined us in Hartford from CT, MA, NH, NY, NJ, and MI!

The AMI Refresher Course commenced Friday evening at Butterworth Hall with the keynote address delivered by Gerard Leonard, Director of Elementary Training. Gretchen Hall, Director of Primary Training, also offered some inspiring words during the keynote address. The Primary and Elementary breakout sessions began first thing Saturday morning. The Trainers incorporated lecture, practice with Montessori materials and discussions throughout the day. In addition, students were asked to complete related assignments in their classrooms prior to returning for the final breakout session which was delivered online using Zoom the following weekend.

A common theme from this Refresher Course is that participants valued the intimate environment, the hands on practice which was incorporated at both the Primary and Elementary levels, and the engaging discussions during the course. Please enjoy this short highlight of our weekend together:
