Is This Program for You?
The AMI Montessori for Dementia, Disability & Ageing 12-hour Workshop is Part I of the MTCNE AMI Certificate pathway and the theoretical foundation for the AMI Certified Practitioner qualification.
This program is designed for those who believe ageing and disability should be met with dignity, respect, and meaningful engagement. Rooted in the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, the approach supports older adults and individuals living with dementia or disability through intentionally prepared environments filled with cues, memory supports, and purposeful roles.
At its heart, the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) program seeks to enable individuals to care for themselves, others, and their community — fostering independence, connection, and purpose at every stage of life.
During this 12-hour seminar, you will:
- Discover how Montessori principles translate to dementia, disability, and ageing
- Learn to recognize and honor each person’s strengths, abilities, and life story
- Understand how environment influences behavior and well-being
- Explore practical strategies that promote engagement and independence
- Gain insight into preparing environments that support individuals in reaching their fullest potential
This seminar provides the essential conceptual foundation for implementation in care homes, community settings, and family environments.
Upon successful completion, participants receive an AMI Certificate of Completion and become eligible to continue to Part II: the Certified Practitioner Practicum, leading to AMI Certified Practitioner status.

This AMI program seeks to enable individuals to care for themselves, others, and their community — fostering independence, connection, and purpose at every stage of life
